A limited edition of 9 lino reduction images. The first Zeppelin raid on London took place at around midnight on 30/31 May 1915. 120 incendiary bombs were dropped in a line from Stoke Newington, south to Stepney and then north to Leytonstone. Seven people were killed and 35 injured.
The image is based on a contemporary photograph. The showgirl in the foreground represents the new vulnerability of the whole population to aerial attack. The distant biplane is a reminder that until incendiary bullets were introduced much later, air defence systems were virtually useless. The reduction process progressively destroys the original plate so the number of prints is limited by the number printed in the first colour.
The edition is printed on Fabriano Artistico paper at BIP in Kemp Town Brighton. The Columbian printing press used for the work dates back to the 1840s.
